NEERG Seminars Pty Limited PO Box 636 T (02) 9387 1899 | SINK OR SWIM IN THE LECLEARNING THE NEW RULESThe seminar on the New Rules for the Land and Environment Court was deemed a tremendous learning experience by all who attended. The seminar was chaired by lawyer, Steven Klinger. After giving the opening address, the Chief Judge of the LEC, the Hon Justice Peter McClellan stayed to hear the other presentations. In his concluding remarks, the Chief Judge stressed that the reform process is still being refined. Its aims are to reduce the time and costs of litigation by simplifying the appeals process. Ways of achieving this include: meeting on site whenever possible, depending on town planners, not lawyers, to produce concise statements of key issues, and depoliticising the approvals process by appointing agreed experts in some cases. |
